Medical Tourism Packages: 10 Questions to Ask Before Booking

Before you click “Book,” print this list and keep it beside your keyboard.

The right medical-tourism package can save thousands—and the wrong one can cost far more.

  1. What is the all-inclusive price—and what does it exclude?
Demand a line-item quote covering surgeon, facility, anesthesia, implants, pre-op tests, post-op meds and dressings.
Ask if extras (ICU, revision surgery) are capped or billed later.

  2. Which hospitals and surgeons are on the itinerary, and are they accredited?
Confirm JCI, ISO or Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA) for the hospital and board-certification for the surgeon.
“Top doctor” claims must be verifiable on official registries.

  3. How many days/nights of accommodation are included, and is it recovery-rated?
Some packages list a 4-star hotel—then add fees for a 5-star recovery suite.
Ask whether companions stay free and if meals are adapted for post-op diets.

  4. Are ground transfers private and unlimited?
Shared shuttles can delay appointments; clarify private car and multiple clinic visits.

  5. What pre- and post-operative care is bundled?
Scans, blood work, follow-up visits and virtual check-ins after you fly home should be spelled out.

  6. Who is my on-ground Medical Care Overseas coordinator, and are they available 24/7?
You need a named contact, not a generic hotline, plus medically trained interpreters when language gaps exist.

  7. What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Some companies refund 100 % if you cancel before visa issuance; others keep deposits after visas are issued.
Ask for written terms covering both rescheduling and force-majeure events.

  8. What happens if complications arise—who pays for extensions, ICU or revision?
The best packages carry complication insurance or fixed-price safety nets.

  9. Is travel insurance included or offered at a discount?
Standard travel policies exclude elective surgery; insist on complications-and-evacuation coverage tailored to medical travel.

  10. Can I see a sample package PDF and two recent patient references?
Legitimate providers email a detailed PDF and connect you with past clients who can confirm timelines, hidden costs and bedside care.
